Red Dead Redemption - Living Reyes' Dream

So we finally finish Mexico off in this post. The rebellion was a really weirdly contrived story to force Marston to stay in Mexico. Really the Mexican people could have just been mistrustful of the guy and that would have taken care of the whole issue. Javier could’ve had a whole gang following him that was threatening the people if they talked. There was no need for this overly contrived rebellion story.

After dropping Javier off with the authorities Marston returns to Mexico for one more battle. He still hasn’t found Williamson and he is not leaving Mexico until he does. You join up with Reyes for an assault on the capitol of the area. It’s not the capitol of Mexico, but it’s the start of Reyes’ dreams. I’ll admit that I had forgotten all about Williamson and I was slightly confused about why Marston went back. Silly me.

When you reach the city Reyes has been captured. Marston finds him about to executed, again. He ends up in a standoff with the three soldiers that are holding Reyes hostage. Luisa charges blindly into the mess and gets herself killed by the soldiers. Her death is enough of a distraction for Marston to rescue Reyes and begin the assault in earnest. Though I’m a little miffed that Marston had to rescue all the prisoners by himself while Reyes gave a motivational speech.

So we storm Allende’s mansion and I got to use a machine-gun, twice. That’s always a good bit of fun knowing that I can just crank out bullet after bullet with no fear of running out of ammo.  I wish I could do this more often.

Once we make it into Allende’s mansion who should we discover? I seriously have no idea. Well I didn’t have any idea at first. No one had mentioned the guy and I didn’t remember what he looked like. He hasn’t exactly been seen all that much over the course of the game. It was Bill Williamson. He was working with Allende the entire time. No wonder Allende’s men couldn’t find him.

Allende and Williamson flee in an armored stage coach with a machine-gun mounted to the back. That was the biggest concern during the chase, but a few well placed Dead Eye shots and the wagon came to a halt. Allende tried to offer Williamson’s life for his own. Not a bad plan, but there was one major flaw in it. While Marston wanted Williamson, Reyes wanted Allende. If he had put two and two together he would have figured out that he wasn’t leaving here alive.

Marston killed Bill. Reyes killed Allende. Reyes is now in position to move on the Mexico capitol. I have a feeling that Reyes is going to be a horrible leader. Marston tries to get him to mourn Luisa or to at least take pride in how she fought for him. Reyes has no idea who he’s talking about. If he can’t even remember such a strongly devoted person who willingly died for his cause then he will easily forget the suffering of his people.

With Williamson dead Marston gets to go back to the U.S.  The third section of the game just opened up. Let’s see what trouble we can get in to.
